A. Apheresis Procedures;
Perform plasmapheresis (therapeutic and donor) using automated cell separation equipment.
Set up, operate, and monitor apheresis machines (e.g., Spectra Optia, Amicus, Trima, Haemonetics).
Prepare and prime equipment, disposable kits, and anticoagulants.
Ensure accurate donor/patient identification and eligibility assessment.
Maintain aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
B. Patient/Donor Monitoring;
Assess patient/donor vitals before, during, and after apheresis.
Identify early signs of complications such as citrate reaction, hypotension, vasovagal reaction, or allergic reactions.
Initiate emergency procedures and notify physician when required.
Provide pre- and post-procedure counseling.
C. Sample and Product Handling;
Collect and label blood samples for testing.
Ensure correct processing, storage, and documentation of plasma units.
Coordinate with laboratory staff for product testing and release.
D. Equipment Management;
Perform daily start-up, calibration, quality checks, and shutdown of apheresis equipment.
Troubleshoot machine alarms and technical issues.
Maintain preventive maintenance logs and report malfunctions.
E. Documentation & Records;
Complete all apheresis procedure documentation, machine logs, and consent forms.
Maintain accurate donor/patient records according to institutional, national (PHC, ISO), and regulatory standards.
Enter data into blood bank information systems (BBMIS/LIS).
F. Quality & Compliance;
Follow SOPs, biosafety standards, and infection-control practices.
Ensure compliance with PHC, ISO 15189, AABB, or national transfusion regulations.
Participate in internal audits, QMS activities, and external quality assessment programs.
G. Inventory Management;
Monitor and request apheresis kits, anticoagulants, disposables, and emergency drugs.
Maintain cold-chain and storage conditions for collected plasma.
H. Training & Communication;
Educate new staff, interns, and nursing staff on equipment and procedure steps.
